Das Ergebnis\, ein Genre\, das oft als "Afro-Tarab" bezeichnet wird\, ist eine\nAufführung\, die das Publikum auf eine Reise vom Ägypten des frühen 19. Jahrhunderts bis\nzum heutigen New York mitnimmt. Das Repertoire umfasst Neuinterpretationen der\nklassischen arabischen "muwashahat" (eine alte Musikform) sowie Eigenkompositionen\, die\nauf ausgefallenen traditionellen Rhythmen und Melodien basieren.\nTarek Yamani’s critically acclaimed album “Lisan Al Tarab: Jazz Conceptions in Classical\nArabic” is an exploration of classical Arabic music within the frameworks of Black American\njazz. The result\, a genre often dubbed as “Afro-Tarab” is a performance which will take the\naudience on a journey from early 1900’s Egypt to contemporary New York. The repertoire\nwill include reinterpretations of classical Arabic “muwashahat” (an old musical form)\, as well\nas original compositions based on edgy traditional rhythms and melodic modes. \nBorn and raised in Beirut\, Tarek is a pianist\, composer and producer who taught himself jazz\nat the age of 19. He is critically acclaimed for music that is “full of poetry and mysticism”\nfrom revisiting the classic traditions of the Arab world through the complex rhythms and\nharmonies of Black American Music. In an invigorating style\, Tarek "ingeniously stretches\nthe edges between two eclectic cultures and musical heritages" as heard on his albums "Lisan\nAl Tarab: Jazz Conceptions in Classical Arabic"\, and “Peninsular” which explores the\nrhythms of the Arabian Peninsula.  \nHe has performed and composed in a variety of other styles including Afro-Cuban\, Brazilian\,\nFlamenco\, Electronica and chamber music\, and in venues such as the Smithsonian Institute\,\nBarcelona Cathedral\, Atrium at Lincoln Center\, Dubai Expo 2020\, Boulez Saal\, Dizzy's Club\nCoca Cola\, MuCEM\, Gran Teatro de la Habana\, Melbourne Arts Center and King’s Place to\nname a few.  \nA recipient of many prestigious awards such as the Thelonious Monk Jazz Composers\nCompetition\, the Baryshnikov Artist-in-Residence\, the Huygens Scholarship\, the Prins\nBernhard Culture fund and the Abu Dhabi Festival Commission\, Tarek is also an educator\, \nauthor of two self-published music books on rhythm and a film score composer of films\nscreened in 100+ festivals around the world and broadcasted on AMC network\, BBC\,\nSundance TV and the New Yorker. \nAbout Rolf Zielke\n\nSince Rolf Zielke first moved to Berlin in 1996\, he’s been collaborating on international\ncontemporary jazz projects – with Brazilian\, Afro-Cuban\, Arab and Anatolian musicians. His\nwork has been greatly influenced by his experiences of building musical bridges between jazz\nand the music of South America and the Middle East. His ‘classical’ and ‘new music’\ncompositions are also created from this musical perspective. \nRolf Zielke teaches at the „Jazz Institute Berlin“ (JIB)\, at the Hochschule für Musik „Hanns\nEisler“\, at the University of the Arts Berlin (UdK) and at the University of Potsdam.
